Sonic Constructions - an improvisational electroacoustic performance project

Sonic Constructions is an electroacoustic chamber ensemble consisting of Curtis Bahn on electric sitar, dilruba and interactive electronics  and Thomas Ciufo on extended electric guitar, flutes, percussion and live electronics. For this live performance CD project, the core duo was joined by Steve Gorn on bansuri bamboo flutes and Jane Rigler on C flute, bass flute and piccolo. This unique ensemble encapsulates the concept of deep listening as their music dives into imaginative journeys of the exotic travels of the performers: from the markets of Dehli, calls to prayers in Mumbai, to the shores of Maine, and cityscapes of New York. With their music and gestures, the musicians are able to transform the live sounds and the pre-recorded sounds into immersive sonic stories. This creates a constant, limitless reshaping of materials in a kind of “infinite play” of regenerative music. This music is at once transformative, delicate, intimate and innovative, and parallels ways of being in the world that allow for spontaneous, engaging openness of thought and care for the collective. This ensemble treats electronic music as chamber performance because there is a constant interactive musical connection between each other, the space, the sounds, and the audience.
